Etymology edit
From Proto-Albanian *wrīpa. Compare Ancient Greek ῥάπτω (rháptō, “to sew together, to stitch”), Lithuanian verpti (“to spin”). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *reipa, to be connected with Proto-Germanic *raipaz (“rope”), in Old High German reif (“rope, cord”), Middle Low German rēp (“sling, rope”), Old Norse reipa (“to fasten with a rope”), and ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *roypnós. Also ultimately a doublet of repë through this theory.
Noun edit
rrip m (plural rripa, definite rripi, definite plural rripat)
