Borrowed from (c. 16th-18th century) Early Modern Spanish zaragüelles, from Arabic سَرَاوِيل (sarāwīl), plural of سِرْوَال (sirwāl), possibly from Aramaic סַרְבְּלָא (sarbəlā), סַרְבַּלָא (sarbalā, mantle; trousers).
