Borrowed from English sketch, from Dutch schets, from Italian schizzo, from Latin schedium, from Ancient Greek σχέδιος (skhédios, made suddenly, off-hand), from σχεδόν (skhedón, near, nearby), from ἔχω (ékhō, I hold). Doublet of szkic (sketch, quick freehand drawing, rough design or draft).
