Scots edit

Etymology edit

Unknown; possibly from owt or nowt.

Pronunciation edit

Pronoun edit

sowt

  1. (South Scots) something

Usage notes edit

This word is generally exclusive to Galashiels and Kelso, with people from the likes of Hawick and Jedburgh preferring summin instead (or sometimes suhin, which has only been around since the 1980s and is probably a derivative of the somewhat older nuhin)
