Italian edit
Etymology edit
Borrowed from Old French estival, of which the etymology is disputed: either from Medieval Latin aestivālis (“summerly”), in place of Classical Latin aestīvus (whence also Italian estivo), from aestās (“summer”), or from tībiālis (“tibial, of the tibia”), from tībia.
