Ancient Greek στρῶμα (strōma) coverlet of a bed, plural στρώματα (strōmata), patchwork (for such a coverlet), also applied to several miscellaneous writings, from anything spread out for resting upon, a bed, from the verb στόρνυμι (stornumi, “spread out”).
