  1. A puzzle making up part of a larger puzzle.
    • 1968, American Psychological Association, Proceedings of the Annual Meeting, volume 3, page 411:
      The three-dimensional problem consisted of three subpuzzles or sets of pieces; the three subpuzzles (hereafter called parts) could be assembled into one large block.
    • 1972, B. Meltzer, Donald Michie, Machine Intelligence, volume 7, page 213:
      The tangram portion defined by the edges traced during the first and second encounter constitutes a subpuzzle.
