Greenlandic edit

Etymology edit

susaq (object) +‎ -qar (has) +‎ -nngit (not) +‎ -toq (agent noun ending), i.e. "which does not have an object".

Pronunciation edit

  • (Nuuk) IPA(key): /susaqaŋŋitsuq/, [sʉ.sɑ.qəŋ.ŋɪt.t͡sɔq]

Noun edit

susaqanngitsoq

  1. (grammar) intransitive
    • Oqaatsinut Tapiliussaq, p. 21
Susaq qallunaatut susumut atappat oqaluut refleksivimik taaneqartarpoq; kalaallisut oqaluut susaqanngitsutut iluseqartarpoq; imminut toquppoq = han dræber sig selv, han begår selvmord; nujaajartippoq = han lader sig klippe (= han bliver klippet).
In Danish, if the object refers back to the subject, it is called reflexive; in Greenlandic, the verb has the intransitive form; he kills himself = han dræber sig selv, han begår selvmord; he gets a haircut = han lader sig klippe (= han bliver klippet).
