Etymology edit

From the noun szer (tool) +‎ -v (noun-forming suffix, extrapolated based on nouns ending in -v, such as kedv, nyelv). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries. For similar derivation, compare elv, élv, terv, érv.[1]
