Etymology 2 edit

Sino-Vietnamese word from ; this is the Southern form. Doublet of tiến, the Northern form.

In current written Vietnamese, only three compounds with this form are in common use: tấn tới (progressive, advancing), tấn công (to attack) and tấn phong (to promote to a higher position); other compounds, although abundantly attested in many texts are now replaced by the Northern form tiến in the speech of most Southerners.
