  1. (carpentry, woodworking) Synonym of blowout.
    He's got a bunch of tearouts on the finished side. It's cheaper and easier to redo it than to patch it, but the job's unprofitable either way.
  2. (renovation) The demolition phase of remodeling.
    The plan is to have the tearout done by next week.
