- The counter tetl is treated like a suffix, and is placed immediately after the numeral that modifies a noun:
- ce (“one”) → centetl ayohtli (“one gourd”)
- nāhui (“four”) → nāuhtetl tomatl (“four tomatoes”)
- mahtlāctli (“ten”) → mahtlāctetl calli (“ten houses”)
