Etymology edit

Sino-Vietnamese word from . Doublet of thì and giờ.

Originally a Northern innovation. As a topic marker, thời has mostly been supplanted by thì spreading from the South.

  1. (Northern Vietnam, dated) Alternative form of thì (topic marker)
    O tròn như quả trứng gà. Ô thời/thì đội mũ, ơ thời/thì mang râu.
    O is rounded like a chicken egg. Ô wears a hat, ơ has a beard.
