Etymology edit

Partly from Middle Low German tōvallich, tōvellich from tōval (occasion, instance) + -ich and partly from tillfälle +‎ -ig. Cognate with Danish tilfældig, Norwegian tilfeldig, German zufällig and Dutch toevallig.
