trip cord (plural trip cords)

  1. A cord, line, lanyard, or wire that, when pulled, mechanically activates a device.
    Seeing the trip cord of a bouncing Betty nearby gave us cold chills, and we moved all the more slowly through the woods.
  2. A type of electrical extension cord: see pad.
