Inherited from Vulgar Latin *turbulāre, present active infinitive of *turbulō, itself either from Latin turbō or from turbula, diminutive of turba, or perhaps influenced by turbulentus; cf. *turbulus. Compare Aromanian turbur, turburari, French troubler, Occitan trebolar.
