Etymology edit

From Old Danish ull, from Old Norse ull, from Proto-Germanic *wullō, cognate with English wool and German Wolle. The Germanic word goes back to Proto-Indo-European *h₂wĺ̥h₁neh₂, which is also the source of Latin lāna, Ancient Greek λῆνος (lênos), Sanskrit ऊर्णा (ū́rṇā), Hittite: 𒋠𒀸 (ḫulanaš).
