Etymology edit

Origin obscure. Possibly from Proto-West Germanic *unbur (unborn child, womb-child), from Proto-Germanic *unburaz (unborn, adjective), equivalent to un- (un-, not) +‎ a derivative of Proto-Germanic *beraną (to bear), related to Old English byre (son, child, descendant).
