Etymology 1 edit

Borrowed from Dutch wafel (waffle) from Middle Dutch wāfel (waffle) derivating from a Middle Dutch word corresponding to German wabe (honey comb) with roots in Middle French vaufre (weaving). Attested in Swedish since 1642.
