Etymology edit

From Vulgar Latin vāscella, from the neuter plural of Late Latin vāscellum, diminutive of Latin vāsculum, diminutive of vās (vessel). Compare Occitan vaissella, French vaisselle, Spanish vajilla, Portuguese baixela, Sicilian vasceḍḍa.
