Albanian edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-Albanian *awa-rapa, derivative of *repa (to strip off, tear off) (modern rrjep). For sense development, compare Ancient Greek ἔδρᾱν (édrān, ran away), from δέρω (dérō, skin, flay).[1] More at rrjep. Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *werb- (to turn, wind). Compare Ancient Greek ῥάπτω (rháptō), Latin repens (sudden), Czech vráp (wrinkle), Lithuanian verpiù (to spin), Middle English wrappen (to wind).[2]
