waringi
Ternate edit
Etymology edit
Likely from Javanese ꦮꦫꦶꦔꦶꦤ꧀ (waringin), from Old Javanese wariṅin.
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
waringi (Jawi واريڠي)
- the weeping fig (Ficus benjamina)
- the Malayan banyan (Ficus microcarpa)
Usage notes edit
Specifically, de Clercq gives Urostigma (presently reclassified as a subgenus of Ficus) as the definition, of which Ficus microcarpa is the only species present in the Moluccas. Hayami-Allen writes Ficus benjamina, which may be another sense of this word, or may be a misidentification of Ficus microcarpa.
Alternative forms edit
- waring (with vowel deletion)
