webslinger (plural webslingers)

  1. One who throws out webs; applied to the comic-book superhero Spider-Man, who traverses buildings by shooting sticky webs.
    • 1998, Diane Duane, The Venom Factor, page 39:
Buildings tall enough to be useful are not necessarily strung for a webslinger's convenience in a straight line between him and his destination. Over time Spidey had learned where the tall buildings clustered and where they petered out.
    • 2009 June 27, Felicia R. Lee, “Spider-Man Musical Names 2 of Its Stars”, in New York Times[1]:
“We are thrilled that Evan and Alan are onboard, and we look forward to announcing further casting, including the webslinger himself, very soon,” the statement said.
