  1. A large surplus of wine, especially as produced by the European Economic Community or its successors.
    • 1989 September 16, New Scientist, volume 123, number 1682, page 104:
      I don't know what the volume of the wine lake is at present, but whatever it is, there ought not to be much added to it from France in 1989, which is a mercy.
