Romanian edit

Etymology edit

Inherited from Latin jacēre, iacēre, present active infinitive of iaceō (lie prostrate), from Proto-Italic *jakēō. The shift from the expected initial -j- in Romanian to -z- is due to dissimilation from the following consonant.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): [zəˈtʃe̯a]
  • (file)

Verb edit

a zăcea (third-person singular present zace, past participle zăcut) 2nd conj.

  1. (intransitive) to lie (to remain lying down)
  2. (of abstracts such as emotions, character defects, etc.) to remain hidden
