1. introduces a non-Lojban quotation; zoi is followed by an arbitrary delimiter (itself morphologically a Lojban word) which also marks the end of the quote; pauses (which may be written as dots) separate the delimiters from the quoted text.

   zoi fy. ceci n'est pas une pipe .fy. cu fraso jufra

   "ceci n'est pas une pipe" is a French sentence.
