Uncertain. Compare Hittite 𒈠𒀀𒄴𒆷𒀸 (māḫlaš, grapevine), Hittite 𒊭𒈠𒇻 (šamalu-, apple), Hittite 𒊭𒄠𒇻 (šamlu-, apple) and Proto-Kartvelian *msxal- (pear).
