From Proto-Turkic *yubka (thin (of flat objects)).

Cognate with Tatar юка (yuka), Kazakh жұқа (jūqa), Kyrgyz жука (juka), Southern Altai јука (ǰuka), Kumyk юкъкъа (yuqqa), Uzbek yupqa, Uyghur يۇپقا (yupqa), Khakas чуға (çuğa, thin), Turkish yufka.
