From Middle Iranian *vistāhv, from Old Iranian *vistāhuva-. Compare Middle Persian [script needed] (wstʾhw' /⁠wistāx⁠/), 𐫇𐫏𐫘𐫤𐫀𐫍 (wystʾh /⁠wistāx⁠/, “confident, bold”), Persian گستاخ (gostâx). See also բստա (bsta).
