From Middle Iranian *vistāhv, from Old Iranian *vistāhuva-. Compare Middle Persian [script needed] (wstʾhw' /⁠wistāx⁠/), 𐫇𐫏𐫘𐫤𐫀𐫍 (wystʾh /⁠wistāx⁠/, confident, bold), Persian گستاخ (gostâx). See also բստա (bsta).
