Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀝 (uṭṭa), from Sanskrit उष्ट्र (uṣṭra, “camel”). Doublet of उष्ट्र (uṣṭra). Cognate with Marathi उंट (uṇṭa) and Nepali उँट (ũṭ).
