Hindi edit

Etymology edit

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑀼𑀦𑀤𑀺 (cunadi, pecks up), from Sanskrit चिनोति (cinoti, arranges), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *činóti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čináwti, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷi-néw-ti ~ *kʷi-nw-énti. The -u- in Prakrit perhaps from contamination with 𑀕𑀼𑀨𑀢𑀺 (guphati, strings together). Cognate with Gujarati ચુણવું (cuṇvũ) and Nepali चुन्नु (cunnu).
