Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀸𑀳𑀺𑀭 (bāhira), from Sanskrit बहिर् (bahir), a compounding form of बहिस् (bahis). Compare Marathi बाहेर (bāher), Assamese বাহিৰ (bahir).
