Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀺 (ṇatthi), from Sanskrit नास्ति (nā́sti), from () +‎ अस्ति (ásti).

Usage notes edit

When used in the sense "not be", it replaces હોવું (hovũ). It is not declined.
