Usage notes edit

Chinese learners tend to erroneously use this verb like:

*同意  ―  tóngyì nǐ.  ―  (lit.) I agree (with) you.
*同意  ―  Wǒ gēn nǐ tóngyì.  ―  (lit.) I with you agree.

In Chinese, it is used to agree with things (opinions, ideas, plans etc), rather than persons. The first sentence above sounds incomplete, roughly like "I agree with your". Furthermore, as a transitive verb, it takes its object directly (which however might be omitted/implied), not via a preposition. To say "I agree with you" in general, one could add 看法 (kànfǎ, “view/opinion”), 觀點观点 (guāndiǎn, “viewpoint, perspective”), or other more specific nouns.

同意看法 [MSC, trad. and simp.]
tóngyì nǐ de kànfǎ. [Pinyin]
I agree with you.
