Usage notes edit
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Polish, Czech and Slovak internet users increasingly started referring to Kaliningrad as Królewiec/Královec, mostly jokingly - as part of the Královec Region meme. On May 9th, 2023, the Polish Commission for Standardization of Geographic Names recommended use of the historical Polish name "Królewiec" over Russian "Kaliningrad".[1]
