From Old Irish Maire,[1] from Latin Maria, from Ancient Greek Μαρία (María), Μαριάμ (Mariám), from Aramaic מַרְיָם (maryām) or Hebrew מִרְיָם (miryām). Doublet of Máire (the girl’s name Mary and the name of the other biblical Marys).
