Etymology

Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan, whence ਅੱਡਾ (aḍḍā, place, stand), from Prakrit *𑀅𑀟𑁆 (*aḍ, obstruct, stop), borrowed from Dravidian, whence அடை (aṭai). Related to अड़ना (aṛnā). Cognate with Marathi अड्डा (aḍḍā).
