Glyph origin edit
Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声) : phonetic 化 + semantic 十 (“stalk and leaves”). The top component in 華/华 has been simplified to a phonetic element 化 (huà).
This character first appeared in the 1956 Chinese Character Simplification Scheme by the People's Republic of China and is not known to have existed prior to that.
