Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اصابت (isābet, a hitting the mark, striking, reaching, stumbling upon, interj. Well done! Bravo!),[1][2] from Arabic إِصَابَة (ʔiṣāba, injury, trauma, score, a hitting shot), verbal noun of أَصَابَ (ʔaṣāba, to hit the mark, to speak or act to the point).[3]
