Etymology edit

From Middle French Escosse, from Old French Escoce, Escouce, from Latin Scōtia. The Old French variant with ou is the expected one. However, it seems unlikely that the word was inherited through Vulgar Latin in either form.

Pronunciation edit

  • (file)
