Literally, “in short [time]”, using the obsolete adjectival sense of curând. Compare the obsolete expression în curândă vreme (“in short time”).

Usage notes

While în curând is the most usual way to express “soon” in contemporary Romanian, it cannot combine with mai (“more”) to yield “sooner”; for this curând alone must be used (mai curând, not *mai în curând).
