Present participle of the middle disposition of Hellenistic Koine Greek καθομιλοῦμαι (kathomiloûmai, I am used, usual) sc. language. From καθομιλέω / καθομιλῶ (win the favour) < καθ' +‎ ὁμιλώ. As a linguistic term, probably a semantic loan from French langue commune.[1]
