From Byzantine Greek φωτία (phōtía), from Ancient Greek φῶς (phôs), variant of φᾰ́ος (pháos, “light”), from Proto-Hellenic *pʰáos, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéh₂os.
Compare Mariupol Greek фоты́я (fotýja), футы́я (futýja).
