Etymology edit
Inherited from Old East Slavic вълхвъ (vŭlxvŭ). Related to Old Church Slavonic влъхвъ (vlŭxvŭ) and Old Church Slavonic влъснѫти (vlŭsnǫti, “to stutter”), referring to the trances the priests used in their ceremonies.
