Cognate with Erzya эзь (), Proto-Finnic *esi. The form изень (iźeń, I'm not) corresponds to Eastern Mari ышым (yšym, id.), the initial element should be considered of the same origin as in иля (iľa),[1] see лия (ľija) for more.
