Etymology edit

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *laskotati, from *laskati. Compare Belarusian ласката́ць (laskatácʹ), Polish łaskotać. The cause of the vowel shift is unclear but possibly influenced by Polish łoskotać (to bang, to make a din) and/or cognates thereof.
