Inherited from Proto-Slavic *skuka. Cognate with Serbo-Croatian ску́чити, ску̑чи̑м (to press, put in a predicament), Slovene skúčati (to whine, to squeal), Czech skučet, skoukat (to howl, to whine), Slovak skučаť (to whine, squeal, whistle).
