Old Armenian edit

Etymology edit

Usually derived from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ǵ-, zero-grade of *h₂eǵ- (to say).[1][2][3] The -ս- (-s-) instead of expected -ծ- (-c-) is probably from a perfect formation *h₂ǵ-t-ստ- (-st-) and a generalisation of -ս- (-s-).[3] The regular reflex *ած- (*ac-) may perhaps be seen in առած (aṙac).[3]
