אילף / אִלֵּף • (iléf) third-singular masculine past (pi'el construction, passive counterpart אולף / אֻלַּף)

1. to tame, to train
2. (dated, Biblical Hebrew) to teach
   • Tanach, Job 33:33, with translation of the English Standard Version:

     אִם־אַיִן אַתָּה שְׁמַע־לִי הַחֲרֵשׁ וַאֲאַלֶּפְךָ חָכְמָה׃

     But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.

3. (sarcastic) to restrain
