Etymology edit

From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾkʾs /⁠āgāh⁠/, aware, knowing), ultimately a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *kʷeḱ- (to see; to look). Related to نگاه (negâh) and dialectal گاس (gâs). Related to Old Armenian ակահ (akah), an Iranian borrowing.
